4 Week Wheel Throwing Course for Beginners

🎨 Go Beyond the Taster Class and Learn the Full Wheel Throwing Process! 🏺

Ready to spend more time on the pottery wheel? This beginner-friendly 4 week course is designed for anyone who wants to learn the foundations of wheel throwing from start to finish.

Across the course, you’ll learn how to prepare your clay, throw on the wheel, trim and finish your pieces, then glaze them ready 

for their final kiln firing.

✔ $249 per person – Includes the full 4 week beginner wheel throwing course.

✔ 2.5 Hour Sessions – Each hands-on session runs for 2.5 hours.

✔ All Inclusive Experience – Clay, tools, tuition, firing and glazing are included.

✔ 5kg of Clay Provided – You’ll receive clay to use throughout the course.

✔ Beginner Friendly – No experience needed, just a willingness to learn, practise and get muddy.

Course Schedule:

Week 1 (2 Sept) – Throwing on the Wheel: Learn how to wedge and prepare your clay, centre on the wheel, and begin throwing simple forms. This session follows the foundations of our introductory wheel throwing class, with extra time spent understanding how to prepare your clay properly.

Week 2 (9 Sept) – Trimming, Handles & Finishing: Trim and refine the pieces you made in Week 1, with the option to add handles, create lids, or finish your forms. If time allows, you may also have a go at making a plate using leftover clay, or you can purchase additional clay if needed.

Week 3 (16 Sept) – No Class: Your pieces will be drying and going through their first kiln firing, also known as the bisque fire.

Week 4 (23 Sept) – Glazing Session: Return to glaze your bisque fired pieces and bring them to life with colour and surface decoration.

After your glazing session, we’ll put your pieces through the kiln again for their glaze firing, making them food safe and water tight.

Your finished pottery will be ready for collection approximately 3 weeks after your glazing session.

What to bring: Your enthusiasm, a hair tie for long hair, short nails if possible, and comfortable clothes you’re happy to get a little clay on.

This course is suitable for ages 18+.
